The College of Nursing offers educational and support services through the Student Success Program, which consists of tutoring services, peer mentoring, open lab time, and an online course called CLRC & Student Success Program.

Tutoring Services

Available to: BSN and graduate students
At these campuses: Chicago, Peoria, Quad Cities, Rockford, Springfield, Urbana

In 2018, this program provided more than 200 tutoring sessions per semester to students in 13 different courses. The tutors are current UIC students who excel in their programs and are able to dedicate time to helping others. Tutoring can be face-to-face, over the phone, through Skype or via e-mail, and it’s available to students at all UIC Nursing campuses.

My experience with tutoring was great; it really made me feel better prepared. My tutor provided help and made me feel comfortable contacting her again should I have any issues in the future.

Peer Mentoring

Available to: BSN students
At these campuses: Chicago, Springfield, Urbana

Senior BSN students volunteer to serve as peer mentors during to the incoming junior BSN students. Juniors benefit from a close relationship with someone who has just completed the academic year that they are embarking on. Mentors are ready to give advice, to be a listening ear, and to help make connections between students in the junior and senior classes.

Open Lab Time

Available to: BSN and graduate students
At this campus: Chicago

The CLRC is located in the lower level of the College of Nursing building on the Chicago campus. It’s available to students throughout the week for both structured and unstructured lab time. Structured open lab is guided practice with a tutor who will review physical assessment or clinical skills. Unstructured open lab is time to practice with your peers or on your own.

I benefited a lot from structured open lab. I hadn’t been on clinical for close to a year, and I feel that this refresher really helped me to reorient myself for summer clinicals.
