Decolonize Your Syllabus: Workshops by Dr. Yvette DeChavez

October 4, 2019

10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

845 S. Damen Ave., Third Floor Event Center, Chicago, IL 60612

Dr. Yvette DeChavez is leading two workshops at UIC in which she explores how students and faculty across the disciplines can benefit from decolonization in higher education.

Workshops will be held:

  • 10 a.m.-noon
  • 2-4 p.m.

The morning session will begin with a brief discussion of colonization before moving into the ways in which colonization and racism continue to manifest in education—from the production of knowledge to curriculum development and class policies—in both the sciences and humanities.

The afternoon workshop will be adapted for women-dominated professions.

While these workshops will be geared toward those creating/manipulating courses and academic programs, all of the UIC community is welcome to attend.

Registration is highly encouraged but not required. RSVP below.
