Nurse Practitioner Fellowship in Cardiology

Watch: Info session on fellowship

Decorative

Thanks to a partnership between our College of Nursing and College of Medicine, the University of Illinois Chicago is excited to offer a comprehensive, 12-month Nurse Practitioner Fellowship in Cardiology.

Fellows will train with experienced clinical mentors alongside physician trainees and medical students. They will rotate on inpatient services, attend several outpatient clinics each week, and observe many common cardiology procedures. They will also learn how to read EKGs and basic interpretation of echocardiograms and coronary angiograms.

Our program will place an emphasis on presentation techniques, efficient clinical documentation and accurate billing and coding. As a culmination of the program, graduates will be eligible and expected to take the American College of Cardiology’s Certified Cardiovascular Knowledge Examination (NP/PA-CCKE).

For the 2026 application season, we will be accepting one fellow.

We are looking for either (1) a nurse practitioner with an adult-gerontology (acute or primary care) or family nurse practitioner certification, or (2) a student who will graduate from a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program in one of those focus areas in the spring of 2026. Applicants should be interested in specializing in cardiology. Applicants must plan to take their NP board exam prior to the onset of the fellowship. Following a review of submitted applications, those with the strongest credentials, letters of recommendation, and essays will be selected for an interview. Access the application for full details.
