Fellowship Application Process

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Fellowship in Cardiology admits one trainee every year on a competitive basis at the University of Illinois Chicago.

To be eligible for the Nurse Practitioner Fellowship in Cardiology Program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Graduated, or will graduate, by the fellowship start date from an accredited nurse practitioner/Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program
  • Are board-certified or have taken boards by July 1
  • Have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the start of the fellowship
  • Have a State of Illinois registered nurse (RN) license by Apr. 1

  • Application window

    Now – Feb. 27, 2026

  • Interview dates

    Mar. 3 and 11, 2026

  • Program start date

    July 1, 2026

You must also have:

  • A copy of your current RN license (Illinois or another state)
  • If not practicing in the state of Illinois, verification of active Illinois licensure by Apr. 1 of next year
  • Unofficial transcripts from an NP granting institution
  • CV/resume
  • Verification of board certification as a nurse practitioner if available
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
  • Statement of interest (up to 500 words) that outlines past cardiovascular experience and describes how the fellowship will further develop your career goals in the cardiovascular field
  • Preferably two, but at least one, professional recommendation. Download this form to send to your recommender(s); instructions for submitting it are at the bottom of page 2.
