PhD student selected for national research fellowship
About the fellowship
PhD student Eric Peprah Osei is one of 16 researchers selected for the Advanced Research Training Fellowship Program in social determinants of health at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.
He and his 2026 cohort are meeting in Atlanta this week for a 5-day research training course, part of the 12-month-long program.
The NIH-funded program prepares early‑career and mid‑career researchers to tackle how social determinants shape health outcomes, with guidance from expert NIH-funded faculty across nursing and public health.
The program, directed by Emory nursing professor Jill Hamilton, aims to shape the next generation of health equity leaders.
Peprah Osei originally hails from Ghana, and is committed to addressing health disparities, particularly among underserved and minority youth living with chronic conditions.
His research focuses on youth-onset Type 2 diabetes, with a specific interest in self-management behaviors, cardiovascular complications and digital health literacy interventions.
He was awarded a Schweitzer Fellowship last year for a project to develop educational seminars in Chicago for Black individuals with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes.
