About

Dr. Angela McPhillips holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice in advanced population health nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago where she is a Clinical Assistant Professor. Angela’s specialty area of practice is promoting and implementing high quality, evidence based nursing care for children with disabilities and special health care needs in the school setting.

Angela is a board certified Advanced Public Health Nurse and holds national and state certification in school nursing. Angela has over a decade of clinical nursing experience in a variety of acute and community settings: urban Level 1 pediatric trauma center, pediatric medical observation unit, Chicago Public Schools, and supporting medically complex children in foster care as child welfare nurse consultant.

She is actively involved with the National Association of School Nurses contributing to projects related to data collection and advancing evidence-based practice in school nursing to improve student health outcomes. Angela is the lead author of NASN’s School Nursing Evidence Based Clinical Practice Guideline: Students with Seizures and Epilepsy. Angela is also a core contributing faculty member of the Managing Students with Seizures ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes), an American Academy of Pediatrics/Epilepsy Foundation telementoring program to educate school nurses on best practices for managing students with seizures in the school environment.

2018, 2019      First Ladies Health Initiative 10th Annual Walk/Run/Health Fair. Organized and mobilized 25 UIC College of Nursing student volunteers to provide health screening and education to clients in collaboration with University of Illinois Health System and the UIC College of Medicine. Students performed over 250 health screenings and facilitated training of over 600 community members in Community Bystander CPR through the Illinois Heart Saver program.

 

2018, 2019      University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System Mass Influenza Vaccination Event. Lead faculty in organizing and training 60 pre-licensure nursing students to provide hospital wide employee vaccination in collaboration with University Health Services as part of mass disaster drill.
