Clinical Experiences

BSN students complete clinical rotations coordinated by dedicated UIC Nursing staff and supported by experienced instructors and preceptors. These experiences allow students to apply classroom and simulation learning directly to patient care while building clinical judgment, confidence and professional skills.

Throughout the program, students gain exposure to:

  • Adult health
  • Pediatrics
  • Women’s health
  • Psychiatric mental health
  • Community and population health
  • Specialty practice environments

UIC Nursing partners with leading health systems and community organizations to provide diverse clinical learning opportunities across all BSN locations. Clinical placements vary by semester and are designed to expose students to a wide range of practice settings and patient populations.

Clinical partners include (but are not limited to):

  • Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago

Specific clinical sites may change based on availability and program needs.

 

Scheduling considerations

  • Clinical rotations vary by semester, course and site.
  • Schedules may include day, evening, weekend and occasional night shifts.
  • Most rotations occur one or two days per week and may range from six to 12 hours per day.
  • Reliable transportation is required for all clinical placements.
