Learning objectives:
- Describe the prevalence and course of illness for bipolar disorder.
- Accurately diagnose bipolar disorder and differentiate it from major depressive disorder.
- Discuss pharmaceutical management options, as well as medications to avoid, for patients with bipolar disorder.
- Understand best practices for drug monitoring, potential adverse effects, and drug interactions.
- Describe the role of the Collaborative Care Model for managing bipolar disorder in primary care settings.
