This workshop will explore the relationship between weight and health and provide a framework for shifting to size-inclusive care.

Content Experts:

Amanda Montgomery, RD, LDN, MPH & Sreela Namboodiri, MD, ABOIM

Objectives:

  1. Review the historical relationship between racism, weight and health;
  2. Review the data and effectiveness of BMI and weight loss methods, including dieting, weight loss medications and bariatric surgery;
  3. Gain a deeper understanding of the physiological and psychological impacts of dieting, weight cycling and weight stigma on health; and
  4. Explore useful self-compassion and intuitive eating tools (e.g., sensing hunger and fullness, exploring cravings) and more to transform care toward a size-inclusive framework.

Target audience:

RNs, APRNs, Nursing students

1.5 Continuing Nursing Education contact hour will be awarded to participants who attend the entire activity and complete the evaluation.

University of Illinois Chicago- College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
