Ardith Doorenbos to be invested as Nursing Collegiate Professor

Ardith Z. Doorenbos, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Health Science, will be invested as Nursing Collegiate Professor in the UIC College of Nursing during a ceremony on Nov. 7.
“This honor is commensurate with Dr. Doorenbos’s exceptional research career,” says Dean Terri E. Weaver.
Doorenbos is internationally recognized for her contributions to the science of palliative care, oncology and pain and symptom management. In addition to her position as professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Health Science, she is director of palliative care at the University of Illinois Cancer Center. Her research includes examining paths to minimizing the use of opioids to manage pain.
Doorenbos has achieved career research funding of more than $40 million, much of it from NIH, and a sustained record of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications in journals of nursing and multiple other disciplines. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame in 2018.
“Through her highly productive career, Dr. Doorenbos has made immense contributions to the body of research on pain management,” Weaver adds. “Moreover, she has brought distinguished recognition to the field of nursing science. We are proud to invest her as Nursing Collegiate Professor.”
