The UIC College of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program is ranked No. 13 among undergraduate nursing programs in the nation, according to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. The program climbed three spots from last year.
UIC Nursing’s BSN program was the only one in Illinois to make the top 25. It tied with five other schools in the list that ranked 686 programs in total.
“Our reputation is important to us, so the high rank is gratifying, but it’s our mission that keeps us committed to the highest standards in nursing education,” says Dean Eileen Collins, PhD, RN, FAAN, ATSF. “We’re fiercely focused on state-of-the art simulation training, robust clinical placements, world-class faculty, and a commitment to DEI—all with the goal to send the most prepared nurses into the field.”
UIC Nursing has three BSN degree-granting campuses across the state of Illinois; the program is offered in Chicago, Urbana and Springfield. More than 300 BSN students graduate from the program each year, providing a pool of well-qualified nurses for the entire state and beyond.
In addition to UIC Nursing, other U.S. News & World Report rankings for the University of Illinois Chicago were:
- Tied at No. 39 among public national universities
- Tied at No. 10 for social mobility, a category that measures the extent schools enrolled and graduated students who received federal Pell grants, which are given to students whose total family incomes are less than $50,000 annually
- Tied at No. 28 for ethnic diversity, which identifies colleges where students are most likely to encounter undergraduates from racial or ethnic groups different than their own
- Tied at No. 47 for economic diversity, a category that highlights schools with the largest percentage of undergraduates receiving Pell grants
- Tied at No. 48 for among best colleges for veterans
UIC was also ranked No. 46 for least debt. The recently unveiled UIC Aspire grant program is the latest example of the university’s commitment to affordability and access to higher education. Starting in fall 2025, the program will cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees for new UIC students who are Illinois residents and have a family income or assets of $75,000 or less.
