Susan Corbridge, PhD, APRN, FAANP, FCCP, FAAN, has been named by Dean Terri Weaver as the UIC College of Nursing’s new executive associate dean. Corbridge is currently an associate professor in the college’s Department of Biobehavioral Health Science, and also serves as associate dean of practice and community partnerships.

Corbridge succeeds Lorna Finnegan, who left UIC to become dean of the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing at Loyola University Chicago.

Since assuming leadership of the college’s practice arm in 2017, Corbridge’s impact and contributions continue to grow. She received a prestigious Hillman Foundation award for an innovative, interprofessional health education and community transition project at the Cook County Department of Corrections, home to the largest jail in the US, which releases more than 30,000 inmates each year, primarily to underserved and disadvantaged neighborhoods in Chicago.  This project has numerous implications for enhanced health policy development.

In 2017, as recognition of Corbridge’s contributions to nursing science, the college awarded her one of its highest honors, the Judith Lloyd Storfjell Distinguished Award for Scholarly Practice.

Corbridge’s leadership spans beyond the College of Nursing. She was elected to serve a four-year term as a board member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and has served in numerous leadership positions for national programs for the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Corbridge is the only advanced practice nurse serving on the Executive Scientific Program Committee for the American College of Chest Physicians and is also an elected board member of the Institute of Medicine of Chicago.

In addition, Corbridge co-led an interprofessional initiative with the American College of Physicians, funded by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation, focused on enhancing value-based care, and she was one of the only nurses recruited to speak at the two-day collaborative of the national Academy of Medicine focusing on provider burnout.

Corbridge is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the American College of Chest Physicians.
