UIC Nursing Executive Associate Dean Susan Corbridge, PhD ’09, APRN, FAANP, FAAN, was selected for the 2021 Nurse Practitioner State Award for Excellence by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. The award is given annually to a nurse practitioner in each state who demonstrates excellence in his or her area of practice.
Corbridge practices as a pulmonary specialist at UI Health and is an expert in pulmonary health and smoking cessation. She is currently studying how the abrupt shift to telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic may be creating disparities in care.
A focus of her research has also been to test and evaluate innovative education methods that increase clinical competency, critical thinking and patient safety. In both her current roles and past—she was formerly associate dean for practice and community partnerships—she has focused on team-based interprofessional care as a method for addressing the complexities of underserved and vulnerable populations.
Corbridge will be honored at the 2021 AANP National Conference in June.
