Dean Weaver honored at her alma mater

UIC College of Nursing Dean Terri E. Weaver, PhD, RN, FAAN, ATSF, was chosen as the 2018 recipient of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Outstanding Alumni Award, which recognizes a graduate with an outstanding career that has advanced the profession of nursing.
The award was conferred at a Student, Alumni and Faculty Awards Program on May 11 during the university’s annual Alumni Weekend.
Weaver is a two-time graduate of Penn’s top-ranked nursing programs, receiving her master’s of science in nursing in 1978 and her PhD in 1990.

“I am grateful and honored to receive this award from my alma mater,” she said. “I’ve carried the powerful lessons in leadership and nursing that I learned at Penn throughout my career. Those roots have served me well as I lead the UIC College of Nursing to the forefront of nursing research and education.”
An international expert on daytime sleepiness, Weaver was the Ellen and Robert Kapito Professor in Nursing Science and also chair of the biobehavioral and health sciences division at the University of Pennsylvania when she was appointed dean at the UIC College of Nursing in 2010.
Weaver was chosen for the award by the Penn Nursing Alumni Board Awards Committee.
