Associate dean for equity and inclusion and associate professor Rosalba Hernandez, PhD, was elected as a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA).
Election as a Fellow of the American Heart Association recognizes an individual’s scientific and professional accomplishments, volunteer leadership and service to support AHA’s mission. Earning the designation means being accepted into one of the world’s most renowned organizations of cardiovascular, stroke and brain health professionals.
“Being elected a Fellow represents both a personal and professional honor,” Hernandez says, adding that it, “reflects my dedication to cardiovascular health and commitment to addressing health disparities in minority populations.”
Hernandez joined the association in 2014 during her postdoctoral training at Northwestern University. Since then, she has actively contributed to advancing the field through regular presentations at AHA scientific sessions, where she’s shared her research on the intersection between psychological well-being (e.g., optimism, positive affect) and cardiovascular health.
Her involvement has deepened over the years, including service on the Committee to Advance Minority Health, Equity, and Diversity (EPI ADVANCE Committee) from 2016 to 2020, and her current role as co-chair for the Council on Stroke’s Psychological Health and Well-being Committee.
She has also served as a co-author of AHA Scientific Statements, helping shape the scientific discourse on cardiovascular health and contributing to evidence-based guidelines that drive future research and clinical practice.
She will be recognized at the AHA Scientific Sessions in Chicago on Saturday, Nov. 16.
