Online RN-BSN program part of No. 3 ranking

No. 3 best online bachelor's programs

The University of Illinois Chicago’s three online bachelor’s programs, which includes UIC Nursing’s RN to BSN Online Degree Completion Program, were ranked No. 3 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

In addition to UIC Nursing’s program, the other two UIC online programs included in the 2024 ranking of Best Online Bachelor’s Programs are the Bachelor of Business Administration Online Degree Completion Program and the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management Online Degree Completion Program.

UIC has earned recognition among the nation’s top programs annually since U.S. News began issuing online program rankings 12 years ago.

The RN-BSN completion program at UIC Nursing allows practicing registered nurses to continue their education. There were around 400 students registered in the program in fall 2023.

“We are pleased UIC is recognized, once again, as a leader in providing registered nurses with a fully online high-quality RN to BSN pathway to achieve their professional goals,” says Gloria E. Barrera, MSN, RN, PEL-CSN, co-director of the RN-BSN program.

Strong engagement from faculty and advisors in the program creates an environment where students can successfully manage their studies, career and personal life.

“Nursing stands as an indispensable pillar within the realm of health care, pivotal for ensuring the delivery of comprehensive, evidence-based care to diverse populations,” says Kate Tredway, MSN ‘97, MBA, RN, co-director of the RN-BSN program. There is an even greater need for nurses to have the knowledge and competency to meet the complexities and challenges in health care delivery today.

For its 2024 rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 1,600 online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs using metrics specific to online learning. Various factors determined the rankings, such as student engagement, faculty credentials, services and technologies.

The complete rankings and methodology for the U.S. News & World Report 2024 Best Online Programs rankings are available online.

“UIC’s online degree programs are a reflection of our commitment to ensuring the broadest access to educational excellence,” Chancellor Marie Lynn Miranda said. “The quality of our online programs has been recognized nationally for over a decade and reflects our dedication to providing flexibility for working adults.”
