Piano receives Distinguished Researcher Award
Mariann R. Piano, PhD '88, MS '84, RN, FAAN, FAHA, who studies the adverse effects of unhealthy drinking patterns on the cardiovascular system, was recognized for winning the 2017 UIC College of Nursing Distinguished Researcher Award on Friday, Mar. 9.
The annual award recognizes a UIC College of Nursing faculty member or alumnus who has made an outstanding contribution to nursing science and research. Piano is a professor and associate dean of research at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, as well as professor emerita in the UIC College of Nursing.
The award was presented at the college's annual Research Day, where she also gave a keynote address based on her research, "Binge drinking: Understanding the dangers and when too much is too much." Past recipients have included Professor Emerita Kathy Norr in 2016; Associate Dean for Research Eileen Collins, PhD, RN, FAACVPR, FAAN, ATSF, in 2015; and Professor Emerita Tonda Hughes, PhD '89, RN, FAAN, in 2014.
