U.S. News ranks online RN-BSN program among top 3 in the nation

No. 3 best online bachelor's programs

The University of Illinois Chicago’s three online bachelor’s programs, which include UIC Nursing’s RN to BSN Online Degree Completion Program, were again ranked No. 3 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. This is the second year in a row the programs have been ranked among the top three.

In addition to UIC Nursing’s program, the other two UIC online programs included in the 2025 ranking of Best Online Bachelor’s Programs are the Bachelor of Business Administration Online Degree Completion Program and the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management Online Degree Completion Program.

UIC tied for third place with the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

The RN-BSN completion program at UIC Nursing allows practicing registered nurses to continue their education. There were around 500 students registered in the program in fall 2024.

Strong engagement from faculty and advisors in the program creates an environment where students can successfully manage their studies, career and personal life.

“We wrap our arms around students,” said the program’s co-director Gloria E. Barrera, RN, PEL-CSN, in a feature article in the fall issue of UIC Nursing’s alumni magazine, Vital Signs. “Having that support is key for a successful program.

The rankings feature evaluations of more than 1,600 online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs using metrics specific to online learning. They are based on various factors, such as student engagement, faculty credentials, services and technologies.

UIC has earned recognition among the nation’s top programs annually since U.S. News began issuing online program rankings 13 years ago.
