UIC Nursing honors preceptors

On Wednesday, Apr. 4, the UIC College of Nursing hosted its annual Preceptor Recognition Event to thank dozens of preceptors who make it possible for students to achieve required clinical hours and ultimately graduate from UIC Nursing graduate degree programs.

While dining and networking, the preceptor guests were greeted by Dean Terri E. Weaver, who expressed her gratitude on behalf of the college.

"The contribution you make is a gift, not only to our college and our students, but to the profession of nursing," said Weaver. "Your commitment to share your time and expertise as teachers and mentors is fundamental to bringing forward the next generation of nurses."

The group also heard from Michael Carter, DNSc, DNP, FAAN, who delivered a CE-eligible presentation entitled, "The DNP as entry to practice." As University Distinguished Professor at the University of Tennessee, Carter is a strong proponent that the nurse practitioner profession should follow in the model of physical therapy, occupational therapy and pharmacy, which years ago made the clinical doctorate the entry-level degree for practice.

The evening wasn't complete until several individual preceptors were recognized for outstanding contributions to students' clinical training. They were:
