About
Dr. Vanderzwan graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA) in 2002. Dr. Vanderzwan is a two time UIC alum, completing her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN; Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) in 2006 and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2017. Clinically she practices as a Full Practice Authority (FPA) Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Cardiology and Hospital Medicine. Dr. Vanderzwan joined UIC Nursing as a Clinical Instructor in 2012 and has taught a variety of prelicensure nursing courses on the Chicago campus (BSN, MSN). Dr. Vanderzwan is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing Science (BNS) and Director of the Clinical Learning Resource Center and Schwartz Simulation Laboratory. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and an active member of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). Dr. Vanderzwan's area of scholarship focuses on simulation-based education and interprofessional education, specifically on deliberate practice of nurse handoff.
