About

Dr. Kirkbride serves as Adjunct Teaching Assistant Professor in the department of Population Health Nursing Science and is an Associate Member of the Graduate Faculty. She completed her PhD in 2014 from the University of Iowa. Her research interests include patient safety and organizational systems.  Nationally, she is a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS), is Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP), and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).

Dr. Kirkbride is an experienced leader in quality and safety in healthcare systems, with strong project management skills. She effectively analyzes information and data to find system level improvement opportunities and directs planning and implementation of projects to achieve desired quality and safety outcomes. She is experienced in using evidence-based guidance to recommend and develop related policies/procedures. She has demonstrated the ability to work in a team environment and promote cooperation and collaboration with high performance within and across disciplines.  Dr. Kirkbride began her career as a staff nurse and has worked across inpatient, outpatient, and long-term care settings in varying capacities. She has extensive leadership experience. She has served as a Director of Quality, Safety & Compliance with primary responsibilities for oversight of patient safety and quality initiatives, and regulatory compliance. She was a Nursing Director for ten years, gaining expertise in executive nursing practice and integrating patient safety into complex care delivery systems. Other roles include Patient Safety Coordinator and Nursing Research Facilitator in a Magnet designated hospital.
