About
Myralyn Ortiz, known by many faculty and students as "Lynn", is the Associate Director of the Clinical Learning Resource Center (CLRC) here at the College of Nursing. Lynn has been a part of UIC since 2019, joining the College of Nursing shortly after the renovations of the lower level (now known as the M. Christine Schwartz Experiential Simulation Lab). As Associate Director of the CLRC and certified healthcare simulation educator, Lynn is certified and assists faculty with the implementation and facilitation of experiential learning (simulations/skills) into both pre-licensure and post-licensure curricula. She also works closely with graduate assistants and students in the lab.
Of note, Lynn has implemented a pre-licensure Escape Room simulation for blood product administration. She also piloted an in situ simulation at UI Health focusing on post-partum hemorrhage response. Additionally, she has helped with the implementation of virtual simulations via the product, i-Human, during the COVID-19 pandemic. She and the simulation team were also featured in WGN's "Around Town" during Nurses Week in May 2023.
Since being employed in 2019, Lynn, along with the simulation team, has helped with the expansion of simulation-based education into nursing curricula. With faculty's growing interest in simulation, she is most excited about the inception of the CRNA program and believes one of the greatest contributions to UIC nursing will be the development of the second floor CRNA simulation lab.
