About

Dr. Rivera's program of research is focused on finding novel ways to transform the way care is provided to older adults managing chronic conditions by centering patient perceptions of their illness. Perceptions about illness can stem from individual lived experience, thoughts about health, and experience with friends or family who have had the same illness.  By bringing illness perception information into the clinical environment, we can improve health outcomes for our patients through improved shared decision-making and care planning. Dr. Rivera's other research interests include chronic kidney disease, patient centered outcomes, self-management, and health disparities.
