Charles Yingling, DNP, FNP-BC, FAANP | Co-moderator | Associate Dean for Practice and Partnerships, Clinical Associate Professor, UIC College of Nursing

Dr. Yingling is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Population Health Nursing Science and the Associate Dean for Practice and Partnerships. Dr. Yingling's practice scholarship aims to improve care for sexual and gender minority communities. Dr. Yingling's teaching scholarship if focused on transforming NP education to assure day-one practice readiness upon graduation.

Judith L. Storfjell, PhD, RN, FAAN | Co-moderator | Professor Emerita, UIC College of Nursing; Visiting Professor, Michigan State University; Consultant

Dr. Storfjell is a professor emerita at UIC, where she was the associate dean for practice and partnerships, and also the executive director of the Institute for Healthcare Innovation. At UIC she was responsible for the entrepreneurial and faculty practice initiatives of the college and conducted health services research with a focus on healthcare costs. Dr. Storfjell has extensive experience in healthcare management and administration. Following her retirement from UIC, she accepted a position as senior vice president for clinical practice and chief nursing officer at Loma Linda University Health, where she worked to improve efficiency and effectiveness of nursing care. She is the founder and past president of a diversified home healthcare company, and for nearly 30 years, Dr. Storfjell has consulted on healthcare projects throughout the U.S. and internationally. Her expertise is in integrating financial and operational strategies, and she introduced activity-based costing and the Balanced Scorecard in healthcare settings. She has consulted on several CMS and CDC projects, including the Community Nursing Organization project. Dr. Storfjell was co-author of the Community Health Accreditation Program’s standards for home care and community health organizations, and she was co-author of the Easley-Storfjell Instruments for Caseload/Workload Analysis. She recently authored a white paper commissioned by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on the role of nursing in improving the health of the U.S. population, which was foundational for the National Academy of Medicine’s Committee on the Future of Nursing 2020-2030 initiative. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, which recognized her as an Edge Runner for her leadership in developing award-winning nurse-managed clinics.

Jane E. Dus, DNP, RN, NE-BC | Panelist | Regional Chief Nursing Officer and System Vice President, Nursing Education and Professional Development, Advocate Aurora Health; Member, UIC Nursing External Advisory Board

Jane E. Dus, DNP, RN, NE-BC, is the Regional Chief Nursing Officer and System Vice President for Nursing Education and Professional Development at Advocate Aurora Health. Her responsibilities include the advancement and innovation in the delivery of care across the continuum with a focus on both strategy and operations in the Wisconsin region. Additionally, she leads the development of a system wide approach to nursing education and professional development to achieve quality outcomes supported by evidence based practice, nursing research and innovation with a strong focus on supporting the transition to practice. She holds a doctor of nursing practice degree from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University and a bachelors of science degree from John Carroll University.

Marsha A. Prater, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE | Panelist | Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Memorial Health System; CNO, Memorial Medical Center

Marsha Prater has served as chief nursing officer for over 25 years, providing executive leadership for the development of a nationally recognized nursing professional practice environment and supporting structures that enable the integration of evidence-based patient care standards and operational processes throughout the health system. She ensures the development and implementation of the MHS Nursing Strategic Plan that facilitates the ongoing strengthening of a culture of nursing excellence throughout MHS and the achievement of safe, high-quality patient, provider and organizational outcomes. Dr. Prater also focuses significant time on fostering relationships with regional academic programs to expand the capability and capacity of a health care workforce to meet the current and future needs of the communities served by Memorial Health System. Dr. Prater has been with Memorial since 1990, initially serving as the administrator for oncology services until assuming her current role. Dr. Prater received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Illinois Wesleyan University and her master's and doctorate degrees from Southern Illinois University. She is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, holds ANCC certification as a nurse executive advanced-board certified and is a member of several professional nursing and healthcare leadership organizations. Dr. Prater also holds adjunct academic positions at Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University, Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville School of Nursing, and SIU School of Medicine, and has been a member of the Illinois Nursing Workforce Center Board since 2010.

Terri E. Weaver, PhD, RN, FAAN, ATSF, FAASM | Panelist | Dean and Professor, UIC College of Nursing

Dr. Weaver is dean at the UIC College of Nursing. She is recognized nationally and internationally for her research on the effect of daytime sleepiness on daily behaviors and assessment of treatment outcomes. Her research career has been honored with many accolades, including induction into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame. Distinguished as a leader in nursing education, Dr. Weaver was also elected in 2017 to a two-year term on the board of directors of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. In 2018, she was named to the first class of fellows of the American Thoracic Society. As a researcher, Dr. Weaver has been supported with funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and the National Institute of Nursing Research. She has produced two notable disease-specific functional status measures, one for chronic pulmonary disorders and the other for sleep disorders. The latter, the Functional Outcomes of Sleep Questionnaire, has become the gold standard for the evaluation of the impact of treatments for sleep disorders to improve quality of life; it has been translated into 51 languages and used internationally in clinical trials. Dr. Weaver earned her BSN at the University of Pittsburgh and her MSN and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, where she previously served as a member of its Board of Directors. Additionally, she is the Training and Education Chair for the World Federation of Sleep Research & Sleep Medicine Societies and the former chair of the national board of directors of the American Lung Association. She has also held leadership positions in the American Thoracic Society, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society.
