UIC College of Nursing DNP student Meg Tomlins and recent graduate Chris O’Brien, DNP ’23, both received awards for their evidence-based practice posters at the International Society of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurses annual conference in Providence, Rhode Island, earlier this month.
All conference participants were eligible for the poster competition, not just students. O’Brien and Tomlins’ posters were based on the work they completed for their UIC Nursing DNP projects.
O’Brien was awarded first place for his project: Unveiling the Invisible Wounds: Exploring Racial Trauma Through Evidence-Based Assessments. O’Brien’s mentors were clinical associate professor Cynthia Handrup, DNP, PMHCNS-BC, FAAN, and Sonia Wisniewski, MSN ’17, APRN, PMHNP-BC.
Tomlins was awarded second place for her project: Using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy in the COPE Program to Reduce Anxiety and Depression: Group Therapy in a School Setting. Tomlins’ mentors were clinical assistant professor Gina Juliano, DNP ’16, PNP-PC, IBCLC, and John Heybach, PhD.
