Fifty-two Doctor of Nursing Practice students participated in the fall student poster session, an opportunity for students to display the results of a quality improvement project undertaken in a real clinical setting.
Each student completes the project during the final semesters of the program. The poster reflects the the student’s ability to translate evidence into practice.
“There were so many outstanding posters, and we are very proud of all students who completed their DNP projects this semester,” says DNP program director Melissa Carlucci, DNP, MS ’10, ACNP-BC, FAANP.
Three students received awards for their projects:
First Place:
Julie Brosnan, DNP ’23, RN Advanced Population Health, won first place for her project, Improving Access to Community-Based Services for Sexual Assault Survivors. Brosnan was invited to present her DNP project at the next Illinois Attorney General’s SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Coordinators’ meeting in January and at the Research Day at the UIC Rockford Campus in April.
Honorable Mention:
Helen Miranda, DNP ’23, RN, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care, was awarded Honorable Mention for her project, Improving Mobility Rates by Engaging Patients with Mobility Appointments. Miranda’s project stemmed from her decade of work as an RN on a medical-surgical unit, where she observed different mobility outcomes depending on treatment during hospitalization.
Sunu Punnoose, RN, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, was awarded Honorable Mention for her project, Implementing a Fall Risk Assessment Tool in Pediatric Patients Less Than 19 Months of Age. Punnoose noted that UI Health lacked a validated tool to assess fall risks for patients younger than 19 months of age prior to her project.
