Three faculty honored at MNRS

Three faculty members from the UIC College of Nursing received awards at the Midwest Nursing Research Society’s 48th annual Research Conference.
The conference was held Feb. 28 to March 2 in Minneapolis.
Anne Fink, PhD ’11, MS ’08, RN, CNE, FAHA, associate professor and interim head of the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing Sciences, received the MNRS Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a deep commitment to the development of MNRS.
Fink, who studies the physical and psychological consequences of work schedules that restrict the timing of sleep, is chair of the MNRS External Relations/Dissemination Committee and served on the planning committee for the 2024 conference. She is a past fellow of the MNRS Leadership Academy as well as a past chair of the MNRS Implementation Work Group.
Judith Schlaeger, PhD, MS ’88, BSN ’80, CNM, LAc, FACNM, FAAN, associate professor, received the Distinguished Researcher Award from the Symptom Science Research Interest and Implementation Group. Schlaeger, who is a pain scientist, a nurse midwife and a licensed acupuncturist, is currently working on seven trials investigating the use of acupuncture to treat pain, including five NIH-funded studies. Her funded studies total more than $15 million.
Krista Jones, DNP ’11, MS ’07, RN, PHNA-BC, FAAN, clinical associate professor, received the Mid-Career Investigator Award from the Nursing Education Research Interest and Implementation Group. Jones is director of the UIC Nursing Urbana campus. She also leads a team of academic librarians and nurses who have received five cycles of grant funding from the National Libraries of Medicine to provide face-to-face and online instructional sessions to educate public health nurses on evidence-based practice.
