Patil named head of Department of Women, Children, and Family Health Science

Crystal Patil, PhD, was selected to be the next head of the Department of Women, Children and Family Health Science. Patil currently serves as interim department head and associate professor.
An anthropologist and interdisciplinary scholar, Patil joined the college in 2014 and has focused her research on evidence-based strategies to reduce health inequities globally among women and children. Patil’s publication record includes a total of 45 refereed articles and two book chapters. Recently, she was awarded a $3.1 million NIH grant to study whether group prenatal care can improve maternal, birth and HIV-related outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa.
Her appointment will be effective Aug. 16, pending approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.
The Department of Women, Children and Family Health Science is one of three academic departments within the UIC College of Nursing. The other two departments are Biobehavioral Health Science and Health Systems Science.
