UIC College of Nursing clinical professor Gerry Gorman was chosen to the receive the Spirit of Ignatius Award from Loyola University Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, presented annually to an alum who best characterizes “curas personalis” or “care of person.”
In addition to being a beloved teacher at UIC Nursing, Gorman is a practicing hospice nurse and passionate champion for social justice initiatives, volunteering her time to engage in prison outreach and primary prevention of war strategies.
The honor, to be awarded on April 6, is given to someone who displays a spirit of charity, engenders in others a desire to perform at their best, is “present” to others, and promotes the mission of Loyola University and its school of nursing.
Gorman was also named UIC College of Nursing’s 2018 Judith Lloyd Storfjell Distinguished Award for Scholarly Practice, the highest award the college confers to recognize practice by a faculty member or alumnus.
