Two UIC Nursing faculty to be inducted into FAANP

Carolyn Dickens and Lauren Diegel-Vacek will be inducted into the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) in June. They were among 71 nurse practitioner leaders chosen for the selective honor in 2020 and the only two from Illinois.

Carolyn Dickens, PhD ’17, APRN, ACNP-BC, is an adjunct clinical assistant professor, who also practices at UI Health, specializing in heart failure and cardiovascular disease.

Lauren Diegel-Vacek, DNP ’10, MS ’02, FNP-BC, CNE, is a clinical assistant professor and director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program.

The program was established in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioners who have made outstanding contributions to healthcare through clinical practice, research, education or policy. Fellows of AANP hold an annual think tank to strategize about the future of nurse practitioners and healthcare.

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners is planning to honor this year’s inductees at a ceremony and dinner on Thursday, June 25, during the 2020 AANP National Conference in New Orleans.
