UIC Nursing introduces 2023 Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award winners

Holli DeVon, PhD ’02, MS ’82, RN, FAHA, FAAN, Leslie Nicoll, PhD, MS ’80, MBA, RN, FAAN and Karen Sikorski, MS, BSN ’68, APRN, are the 2023 UIC College of Nursing Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award winners.

The annual award, inaugurated in 2018, recognizes alumni making exceptional contributions to health care, health science and society.

DeVon, associate dean for research and the Audrienne H. Moseley Endowed Chair in Community Research at UCLA Nursing, is on the cutting edge of research on cardiovascular disease symptoms among women.

Nicoll is editor-in-chief of CIN: Computers, Informatics, Nursing, a leader among nursing journal editors and coordinator of Portland Community Free Clinic.

Sikorski is a pioneer of pain management nursing practice who has taken on leadership positions in national and regional pain management nursing associations.

The three will be honored at the all-alumni REUNION on Sept. 23 along with 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award winner Yoko Shimpuku, PhD ’10, CNM, RN. The college will also award Lucy Marion, PhD ’90, RN, FAAN, FAANP, a posthumous award in honor of her distinguished career in nursing education and practice.
