The UI Health Wellness Clinic at Center on Halsted provides sexual health services onsite for members of the Northalsted community and beyond. This weekly clinic offers HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a medication-based strategy to prevent HIV infection. The lead provider in the clinic is Dr. Karen Cotler, a UI Health clinician, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, and a faculty member at the UIC College of Nursing, where she is also the Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. Faculty, staff, and students worked with Center on Halsted on every stage of the clinic’s evolution, performing community assessments, creating clinic procedures and workflows, and building an effective patient care program. The clinic is aligned with the state of Illinois’ Getting to Zero initiative, which aims to end the HIV epidemic in the state by 2030.
