Karen Cotler, DNP, FNP-BC, a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Health Systems Science, was selected as one of 63 nurse practitioner leaders to be inducted in the 2019 class of the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners this month.
Cotler focuses her clinical practice on vulnerable and under-served populations. Her area of scholarship is focused on improving health outcomes of sexual and gender minority populations.
She is family nurse practitioner at UIC Nursing’s nurse-led clinic, Mile Square Health Center-Humboldt Park, and provides on-site clinical services for injection drug users at UIC’s Community Outreach Intervention Project (COIP) West Side field office.
Cotler was selected based on her contributions to clinical practice as well as education and mentorship of the next generation of nurse practitioners. She will be inducted on Thursday during the 2019 AANP National Conference at the Indiana Convention Center.
The FAANP program was established in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to healthcare through clinical practice, research, education or policy.
