Rockford is one of six UIC Nursing campuses across Illinois. The others are Chicago, Peoria, Quad Cities, Springfield and Urbana.

Though she is stepping down as director, Rosenberger will continue to serve as clinical associate professor in the department of Human Development Nursing Science, where she will focus on her role as principal investigator on a $3.1 million federal grant to bring a mobile health unit to underserved teens in Illinois.

Monahan previously served as assistant professor and interim department chair at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and before that, was chair of the nursing program at Rockford University.

She is also project manager on Rosenberger’s grant, called ENRICH.

Prior to becoming a nurse in her 40s, Monahan, who has an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, worked as an executive at Commonwealth Edison.

In a Q&A with UIC Nursing, Monahan said she enjoys, “helping shape the futures of the next generation in nursing, mentoring others, expanding their horizons, and ‘paying it forward.”
