UIC Nursing Esteemed Awards
College awards bestow honors on exceptional faculty, staff and alumni
The UIC College of Nursing recognizes faculty, staff and alumni with a variety of awards. The Distinguished Researcher Award, Julie & Mark Zerwic Diversity Award, Distinguished Mentor of Faculty Award, and Judith Lloyd Storfjell Distinguished Award for Scholarly Practice are among the most esteemed honors bestowed by the college.
Distinguished Researcher Award Heading link
The UIC College of Nursing Distinguished Researcher Award is an annual award to recognize a UIC College of Nursing faculty member or alumnus who has made an outstanding contribution to nursing science and research. The award consists of a cash gift and a commemorative plaque presented at the college’s awards event. The recipient may also be honored at Research Day. Research Day is held annually at the beginning of March.
Julie & Mark Zerwic Diversity Award Heading link
The UIC College of Nursing Julie & Mark Zerwic Diversity Award has been established as an annual award to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution to support diversity and foster equity and inclusion within a department, college, university and/or the community.
Distinguished Mentor of Faculty Award Heading link
The UIC College of Nursing Distinguished Mentor of Faculty Award is an annual award to recognize a UIC College of Nursing faculty member who has made an outstanding contribution to faculty mentorship. The award includes a cash gift and a commemorative plaque presented at an award ceremony, at which the Distinguished Mentor will give a presentation describing their philosophy and history of mentorship. The recipient may be required to serve at least a one-year term on the college’s faculty mentorship taskforce.

The UIC College of Nursing Judith Lloyd Storfjell Distinguished Award for Scholarly Practice is an annual award to recognize a UIC College of Nursing faculty member who has made an outstanding contribution to nursing practice.
