Application Deadline: January 15

Prospective first-year college students Heading link

The College of Nursing does not admit first-year students directly into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. However, there is a tailor-made path through UIC. Applicants seeking admission into UIC as freshmen are encouraged to apply to the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences as an undeclared major. In that application, you can indicate pre-nursing as your educational goal, which ensures you will receive advising from a staff of pre-health advisors in LAS for completion of the nursing prerequisite coursework.

If you are an academically talented high school student who is planning to apply to UIC as a freshman, consider also applying to the Guaranteed Professional Programs Admission (GPPA) program. Acceptance into the GPPA program guarantees your admission into the College of Nursing at your junior year, assuming you complete all nursing prerequisite coursework and maintain specific academic standards defined by GPPA prior to beginning the nursing program. Admission into the GPPA program is competitive.

Important notes:

  • Meeting the above minimum admission criteria will result in a review of your completed application but is not a guarantee of admission.
  • An applicant must have all BSN prerequisite courses completed, with a grade of C or better, by the end of the spring semester before starting the program.
  • An application for admission may be submitted while coursework is in progress. However, all prerequisite coursework must be completed by the end of the spring semester.
  • The five prerequisite science courses must have been completed within the seven years prior to starting the BSN program.
  • Select applicants may be called in to interview with faculty, after the application deadline. Only applicants who meet the minimum application requirements, and complete the entire application process before the January 15 deadline, will be contacted for an interview.
