AG-ACNP post-DNP certificate
Admission: Fall only
For DNP-prepared nurses who wish to broaden their scope of practice by becoming becoming certified as an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner, the UIC College of Nursing offers a certificate that will allow them to qualify for national certification in this focus area.
The post-DNP certificate program is offered in a hybrid format consisting of online, on-site and blended courses.

Note about required courses: For students who do not hold a current APRN national certification and license, four additional courses may be required: NURS 531: Pharmacotherapeutics (3 SHs); NURS 532: Comprehensive Health Assessment for Advanced Nursing (4 SHs); NURS 535: Advanced Pathophysiology Across the Lifespan (3 SHs); and NURS 540: Issues in Advanced Practice in Nursing & Policy Implications (3 SHs).

Tuition for the post-DNP certificate is based on UIC professional program tuition, which is set by the university. The rates found via the link below are for students at the Chicago campus only; students at our other campuses may have variances in rates. Consult the director at your selected campus for additional details. Certificates are not considered “degree-seeking” and therefore financial aid will not be available.

Can I apply hours from my current position to the clinical requirements for this program?
At UIC Nursing, we feel strongly that clinical hours in the new focus area are essential to preparing you to become the best practitioner you can be in that area. Therefore, we do not provide clinical credit for hours from your current APRN certification.

Are 675 clinical hours required for every student?
A minimum of 500 clinical hours is required for a new focus area. There are some cases in which a certified NP who is practicing out of scope in the new focus area may have applicable clinical hours. UIC Nursing will do an individual gap analysis to determine how many hours you need between the minimum 500 and standard for this program.

I have a DNP degree but am not a nurse practitioner or midwife. Can I enroll in this program?
Nurses who have DNP degrees in systems-focused areas and want to enroll in the this post-DNP certificate program are required to take additional courses. Contact the program director for details.
