Rural Nursing Certificate

The Rural Nursing Certificate Program provides preparation for a career in rural nursing in a variety of contexts. The program is designed to prepare graduate nurse learners to demonstrate population and patient/family level competence as an interprofessional care team in the prevention, identification, assessment, and treatment of diseases and conditions commonly experienced by rural populations, particularly by those working in the agricultural industry.

The Rural Nursing Certificate is designed to cover content salient to the field of rural health. Three semesters of coursework focus on the clinical aspects of rural healthcare population and patient/family level competence within an interprofessional care team in the prevention, identification, assessment, and treatment of diseases and conditions commonly experienced by rural populations. Content covered will include an understanding of concepts/issues related to rural primary care, prepare students to address rural problems in general practice, and apply rural health strategies in community-based health initiatives. Students will obtain competencies designed to practice in the rural settings, increasing their value and service in rural communities. Through online learner-directed coursework and selected fieldwork experiences, the Rural Nursing Certificate will help to educate a new generation of skilled healthcare professionals focused on improving, preserving, and promoting better health for patients and population in rural settings.
